Shetland Knit

A proper traditional woolly, the Shetland Knit is our more rustic, heavier take on the much-loved Coil sweater.

Hand-knitted in 100% Shetland wool, this is a substantial, cosy knit with a much more structured feel than the soft, draping shape of the Coil. It has the same familiar shaping, but the character is completely different — heavier, sturdier and wonderfully rustic.

Available in three natural colourways, each one lets the natural beauty of the Shetland wool speak for itself. There’s something wonderfully old-fashioned about this sweater — a proper, hardworking woolly made for cold days, windswept walks and wrapping up when the temperature drops.

It’s a heavier knit to wear, but that’s very much part of its appeal. Warm, substantial and incredibly cosy, it’s the sort of sweater you’ll reach for when you really need to keep the cold out.

A totally different take on our Coil sweater, and a lovely example of how changing the yarn can completely transform a familiar shape.

Care

Made from 100% Shetland wool, a natural, renewable and biodegradable fibre.

Wool is naturally breathable and insulating, making it ideal for keeping you warm on colder days. With gentle care, a good woollen knit can last for many years.

Pilling or bobbling is an inherent characteristic of natural wool fibres, particularly when new. Refresh your sweater with a wool pilling comb, gently removing any bobbles or fuzz as they appear.

Hand wash only in cold water. Use a gentle wool or delicates detergent. Gently pulsate the sweater in the water rather than rubbing or agitating it. Rinse carefully and gently squeeze out excess water — never wring.

Roll in a clean towel to remove excess water, then reshape and dry flat. Keep away from direct heat and radiators.

Store folded rather than hanging to help maintain the shape of the knit.

Designed and constructed in England, Pilgrimage is the new collection from The Make Shed

Pilgrimage is a collection inspired by my love of walking — by the simple act of putting one foot in front of the other and giving yourself a little space to think.

It’s about slowing down, getting back to basics and finding a bit of peace and perspective along the way. We’ve used beautiful natural fabrics, British wool, textured yarns and our own hand-designed linen/wool mix, with pieces designed to be lived in, layered and worn for years.

There’s something quite grounding about making clothes slowly and thoughtfully, and that’s very much at the heart of this collection.
